About

The one who stayed.

If you’re reading this, somebody put you on. Glad you made it. That’s how just about everyone has found this music.

For ten years it ran like a trap house that never got a knock at the door. No open mics. No CDs on Venice or on street corners. Just people passing it to people they care about, and a little quiet promotion along the way. Which means you’re in good company.

Relax. It’s a figure of speech. The only thing that ever moved out of this house was music, and that runs in the family.

Let me tell you where it comes from. My father toured, and music is how he kept a family fed. My brother has toured and worked with artists. My sister works with the organizations and magazines that push it. My aunt has sung on other artists’ records. Cousins, uncles, extended family, all still making moves in the music game to this day.

Every one of them went out to get it. I stayed home, made the music, and trusted the right people would find it. There were days I questioned that. The music kept coming anyway, and here you are.

Now, about the 58. I didn’t choose them, and honestly, I’m glad I didn’t.

Ms. Marsh, a close friend of mine who doesn’t like modern radio rap, sat with every song I’ve released, more than a hundred of them, and scored each one out of ten. The tens made it. So did the nines. What’s left is in front of you.

The ones marked ★ Curator Pick are the ones Ms. Marsh called the best of the best. Start anywhere. Take your time with it.

Fair warning: some of these are explicit, so mind who’s in the room.

Thanks again to everyone who’s encouraged me and helped me along this journey.

Much love,
J-Free / Laquacious
